Hot spring girls 👭
#nepal🇳🇵
#hotsprings #girlgroup #trekking #rubyvalley #tatopanihotspring #2020travels #nepal2020
A start off with a couple of interesting photo's from the area, as well as a tidbit or two.

Nepal. Above and reported on.
Tophotsprings reports (Dec. 1) on the more well-known Tatopani-Beni hot springs:
'Both the Tatopani Hot Spring and the Paudwar Hot Spring can be found in Tatopani, making this area a popular destination for those in search of geothermal waters for relaxation or medicinal purposes. Locals use the gentle waters of this natural mineral spring to relax and feel better, and it also draws a steady stream of curious tourists'.
A short report from The Rising Nepal (Feb. 3) on the same:
'The rural municipality has added infrastructure and managed the spring, increasing the number of visitors day by day, said Tilija. Three ponds have been constructed so that patients can submerge their bodies. Water tap has been installed for drinking water and toilets are constructed in the site. The bathing pool is covered with zinc sheets'.

Mates
Discovered the #Borong #HotSprings today. After one of the bumpiest rides on #twowheels ever, around 20 clicks later, we ended up at a huge hole in the road and had to walk from there. 40 minutes through a Nepalese #Shire (not joking) we hit the river and right next to it, this simple, yet #natural #pool of lovely #sulfury water. Our soakmates: #Sikkimese , #Nepalese , and #Bhutane , in which a few of the younger men spoke decent enough English for small talk. The hike back up through the Shire was an hour and a half long and decently intense ventute, but with the help of a local man, we located our transpo and were off on a whole different adventure getting back to #Ravangla. Quite the rewarding and overall incredible day! Stoke. | #Sikkim #India #Globetrotter #Winning #Travels #AreWeStillInIndia
Curlytales (Jul. 28, 2022) has a concise overview of five soaks in Sikkim.
Meanwhile, BBS reports (Oct. 10) on the efforts underway to restore Gasa hot spring.
'The Gasa hot spring or Gasa Tshachhu will take some time to reopen to the public. The management is still carrying out restoration works at the site. The hot spring which is believed to cure skin problems, joint pains, and digestive disorders, among others, was completely washed away by the Mochhu flood in August last year [2021]'.

More from China. iChongqing reports (Jan. 9) supposedly never ending push to establish the city as the world's hot spring capital, whatever that may mean / or be of significance.
'On January 6, the Second China Hot Spring Industry Expo opened in Beibei District, Chongqing, where abundant hot spring resources lie.
...
The exhibition scale of this industry expo is 10,000 square meters, with 6 themed exhibition areas and 200 booths. It brings together cutting-edge products and the latest technologies of the whole industry chain, such as international hot spring promotion agencies, hot spring resorts, and hot spring facilities and equipment companies.
One of the flagship products at this exhibition is the "Bath Aid Express," initiated by the Chongqing Charity Federation. The Bath Aid Express aims to ensure the cleanliness of the elderly by providing bath assistance services for the disabled, semi-disabled, and extremely poor elderly'.
This is a bath in a bus.
'At present, there are more than 40 hot spring tourist attractions, hotels, and resorts built in the city. Chongqing has become a famous hot spring tourism city centered on hot springs. The influence of the "World Hot Spring Capital" at home and abroad is continuously expanding'.
European Spa Association (ESPA) has an interview (Jan. 10) with two co-founders of the Shenzhen-Qianhai Sino-European Spa Academy. Why?
'With ancient Chinese legends and folk ballads extolling the enchanted healing powers of the water, thermal medicine has a long tradition in China dating back more than 2,000 years. On 15 November 2022 in Tengchong, Yunnan province in China, the first spa hotel dedicated to thermal medicine opened its doors'.
Basically the Academy has been trying to establish which soaks can be used for which ailment, so to say; it seems soaking for solace is not on their cards.

Toasty

One of the most unique experiences of our life. We soaked in a traditional hot stone bath, situated in a candlelit stone hut on a hill. A ten minute walk from our lodge. Soaking in a wooden tub with minerals, herbs, and heated by hot stones, out in the open with views of the magnificent Phobjikha valley. And even though it was 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4.4 degrees Celsius) we were nice and toasty. We enjoyed this traditional Bhutanese’s healing experience. The sliding bamboo doors allowed for full privacy, yet offered majestic views. We got to unwind, sip a cup of hot apple cider and watch the sun set. An experience I will never forget @amankorabhutan

Wow, it's been quite a while. Not much to share either.

But let's start in the Himalaya proper though arguably, the above ticks all the boxes, except thermal waters. Following though are better aligned.

Natural hotspring in Shangri-l. There are different sections where the hot source comes out. The first spot is the most popular one within locals because is really cheap and the water is super hot, I didn't even dare to try the hottest pool. Locals gathers there for chatting together and release their daily stress with a hot bath in those snowy and freezing days. The second spot I tried was not as hot as the small one but you could actually swim and enjoy the amazing scenery. there's also a natural steam room inside the cave which makes everything more challenging.

Finally, following a bit of an oddity. A Greek museum exhibiting photo's by Italian Mario Fantin of an expedition to the Karakoram (Pakistan) / K2. With the following soaking photo:
MARIO FANTIN | RADIUM PALACE
The documentation of the Italian expedition to Karakorum in 1954 is entrusted to Mario Fantin who decided to photograph the most intimate and everyday moments of that adventure. Fatigue, happiness, and gratitude are some of the emotions that transpire from the faces of men immersed in the sulfur spring near Chogo. The water welcomes them in a warm embrace that heals wounds and regenerates the spirit.

Tree cave hot spring
树洞温泉
有点意思
#travel #trip #photography #photographer #China #yunnan #mangshi #hotsprings #treecave #treecavehotspring #草莓行摄 #树洞温泉 #温泉
Starting off in China.
The Tree Cave Hot Spring is located in Mangbang Village, Zhefang Town, Mangshi. Formely known as Luxi, Mangshi is in western Yunnan, closer to the border with Burma.
I actually stumbled on a great overview of Yunnan's soaks from Luju Bar (17 Sep. 2020) entitled:
'17 wild hot springs around Kunming suitable for bathing'.
The around should not be taken too literally, Mangshi for instance is a 7 hours drive ...

Another find (pictured above) has been this article from Ninefeetapart (Feb. 4, 2020):
'It is the world's largest hot spring waterfall, and it is also the only hot spring in the world that can cure diseases (the highest content of radon in domestic hot spring water). It is the only cliff hot spring in the world. That's right, it's Jiu Jiu Li Hot Spring in Luoji Mountain. Today I will take you to find out.
Luoji Mountain Ninety-Ninety-Kilometer Hot Spring is located about 45 kilometers south of Xichang City, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. The highest peak is 4359 meters above sea level. The hot water of 40 degrees per year cascades down from the cliff of Mid-mountain. The highest waterfall falls 50 meters. The hot spring waterfall is composed of hundreds of hot spring waterfalls of various sizes, forming a hot spring waterfall group with a width of more than 200 meters, which is very spectacular'.
The next is also accredited to Sichuan, probably the more mountainous area towards Tibet.

Chicks
Part 1
After volunteering two weeks our work exchange was over.
🏔️It was now time to explore, Mountains & Hiking are what define Kyrgyzstan it the best way.
The scenery is the highlight of the country so of course we had to go for a hiking trip😊
We got told about some free hotsprings without doing much more research, besides the route we packed our things, leaving our baby chicks with our host family🐤

⛺ We put up the tent just 5km up the trail as we had started late, before the sun set we cooked some noodles, having an early night to have enough energy next day

😴It was a short night because Krystal wanted to start at 5 in the morning so we started at 6😅
The hike was not the easiest but we made it and saw the hot springs which was not what we expected just a pot of warm water but we went inside anyway because after 20km walking we deserved this 😌

🇩🇪:
Teil 1

Wild east
Someone by the name of jnburian has managed to find some great soaks while trekking on the eastern Siberian peninsula of Kamchatka.
A couple of examples:

Cured

Enjoying natural hot water at natural hot spring, Tatopani Jumla-Nepal. It is believed that this water is good for your skin and cures skin related diseases too because of some chemicals that heat this water naturally underground. It was a good experience though.

Away from the main trekking tracks of Nepal, there's still lots of good soaking to be had.
Above from the remote district of Jumla, below Chilime Tatopani, Rasuwa district.

Bramphotography on Chilime Tatopani, Nepal:
'Morning hot springs (serie)'
Furtheron he writes:
'Close to the border of Nepal and Tibet (China) you find in a little place Tatopani with some stone made hot springs. In the early morning I could experience how this ritual is done by everybody and it was a beautiful scenery. Although it is not as sophisticated as hot springs in other countries, it is popular among the people of Nepal who seek solace from pain and go for a refreshing bath in the scalding waters said to have medicinal and healing powers. The showers are shaped as colorful lion head spouting the spring water between their fanged teeth. There is swimming pool, populated by little children taking turns to do back flips into the murky water. Woman take showers with elegance and the atmosphere among al the local people there is peaceful, fun and calm'.

Tapping

Shigatse (Tibet) by mayaruonan
Local way to enjoy bath. #hotsprings #waytorelax #shigatsesummer #summerfun☀️
I'm always tempted to provide as much info as possible from whatever I can find on internet. But concerning hot springs in the more mountainous regions of north-east Asia, there's very little to report about. It seems that (with exception of China) overall development and reporting on visits is poor and remains so.
But it's also development itself that seeks to end many of the blissfull soaks. Take the following as an example.

The Nepali Times (13-19 May 2016) has an extensive article on the hot springs of it's mountains and what they could do for tourism.
'Nepalis have been using Himalayan hot springs for health reasons, but their full tourism potential has never been tapped.
...
Geothermal expert Mahendra Ranjit says although research on geothermal energy started in Nepal more than 30 years ago, the emphasis was misplaced. “We looked mainly at generating electricity, which is difficult and costly due to the relatively low temperature of the hot springs in Nepal. What we need and should focus on is the direct use of these springs, like in tourism development and farming,” Ranjit told us.
...
All the towns next to hot springs in Nepal are called Tatopani, and there are dozens of them from Humla to Taplejung.
...
In Nepal, the huge potential of hot springs remains untapped.  Tourism experts say the scope of hot spring tourism is vast and if properly developed can be a lucrative addition to the tourism market. “With the current infrastructure tourists may visit hot springs for the quaintness of it, but to attract international tourists we need to scale it up or leave everything natural,” says tourism entrepreneur Raj Gyawali. Combining thermal springs with yoga, ayurveda and even shamanism can make it a viable product, Gyawali adds.
...
...
In Myagdi, the Singa Tatopani on the way to Dhaulagiri Base Camp is often overlooked by foreigners but Nepali patients have been coming here for centuries believing in the healing property of the spring. Income from the spring is used to operate the local Sarvodaya Secondary School with over 300 students. Income from the Bhurung Tatopani is also ploughed into the Saraswati Higher Secondary School. Earnings from the springs are used in the development of not only the springs but the community as well'.
So development and tourism can go hand in hand. However whenever we see talk about developing hot springs, it usually spells the end of another great soak.

Jhinu hot springs, probably one of the most sort after hot soaks of Nepal. Note that development is long way away ... a conundrum? Source: achut12

Looking at the last photo, don't really know where this. Chukota refers to Chukotka Autonomous Okrug a large administrative tundra steppe area on the eastern most point of Asia / Russia. It could refer to Gil’mimyl Hot Spring, to Senyarinskiya Hot Spring (which does look similar, though more rustic) or to (Kukunyskie) hot springs near Lorino village. Read other possibilities here.

Wandering

Common people?
Development related news for parts of the region.

As of yet there are no mentions made of changes in Nepal's hot springs due to the recent devastating seismic activities.
It can be expected. I did hear that bear the epicenter of the first earthquake, some of the natural springs had discontinued.

Jhinu hot spring still in working condition, source.

Meanwhile there's no end in sight to China's thirst for upscale soaking. The most recent addition comes from Sheraton who are opening another hot spring related hotel in Yunnan (travelmedia.com, Jan. 3):
'Located close to the borders with Myanmar and Laos, Sheraton Xishuangbanna Hotel offers 326 rooms and suites, all equipped with balconies offering views of the surrounding forest.
Facilities include three restaurants (international, Chinese and Thai), a lobby bar, indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, a business centre, fitness centre, spa and its own on-site hot springs, with six indoor and outdoor sulphur pools.
...
Guests can choose to soak in the hot springs, explore the rainforest, immerse themselves in the local cultures and customs of Dai minority groups residing near the hotel, or take a bike ride to see the millennium-old Pu’er tree,” said the hotel’s general manager, Damian Chua'.
Elsewhere in Yunnan I recently came across this while doing research for this blog. It's another of those some weird and strange pictures. The following comes from the Yongning hot spring, northern Yunnan and what's happening here?

The new one where we went has a collective basin share in two parts one for women one for men, just separated by an enormous wooden beam,. It's open air so it is very pleasant.
When we ask to go to the collective bath the owner is surprised and refuses by saying to us "lao bai xin" what wants to say "common people" what in his eyes we are not!
The caption makes nothing clearer, but it certainly looks like the tourist is the odd one out for a change ...

Basking
A recent article on research as towards soaking on Sakhlain  and Kuril islands, (far eastern Russia) has concluded that there's a lot of good in soaking, but enthusiasm needs to be tempered, this is still an area nearly dropped off the map ...
But not for the soaking enthusiasts in the accompanying photo:

That said, below a what older photo from a Kamchatka expedition (source), mental and social health is certainly OK, don't know about the smoking. Caption reads translated as :
Bath of natural origin. In this cup flows over a rock hot water, so you can bask in even severe frost.
Ванна естественного происхождения. В эту чашу стекает по скале горячая вода, так что нежиться здесь можно даже в лютые морозы.

Strange
An article (Tribune, Apr. 9) on Chitral hot spring, Lotkoh valley in Pakistan:
'Many find the water too hot to even touch, let alone take a dip in. As a solution, locals have built public bathrooms within the vicinity where the spring water can be mixed with cooler water, said another visitor, Mohammad Jamil. “People bathe using this water for five to 10 minutes and then sit for the next 10 to 30 minutes in a warm room as it is advised not to step out in the open immediately.”
People who have indulged say they feel “fresh” afterward; some go as far as saying the water has magical characteristics which has relieved them from fatigue'.
A blog article on Maharashtra's hot springs with this photo:

 The pond for men...
It describes stumbling on this hot spring:
'We were in for a complete surprise when we reached the small village which housed the lake. In fact, there was no lake at all. However, what we discovered was this lovely hot water spring called Rajvade. An old woman from the village saw us as two lost wanderers and decided to take us around to the our destination. She spoke only Marathi and we spoke none, so our conversations were fun; all she could figure out was that we were strange people from Pune :)'
Struggle
Finally, recent unrest in Tibet explained (Tibet Post, May 5) as locals of Awong (Gonjo county) oppose developing a hot spring. Amongst their other complaints that is, as the development of a hot spring is lead to believe to be a pretext for mining a sacred mountain..
"On April 2nd, the local government told all the people of the village that there were plans to convert the natural geyser water near the mountain into hot spring baths," the sources told the TPI.
"Locals agreed to the plan, understanding that the project could attract many tourists and generate income," the sources also said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
...
Many locals were injured in the struggle, many of which refused treatment from the government hospital, instead going to private hospitals'.

Back to India, recent news is that the country is in the grips of a heatwave; not so for these fellas:
