Bear(-ing)

Как на счет горячих источников диких настолько, что в процессе к вам приходит медведь, вероятно, поинтересоваться, как хорошо проходит отдых?
#russia #kamchatka #hotsprings #bear #malka
Hot news from the many hot springs of the Himal.
And beyond, witness the above (Russia's Kamchatka).

New York Times (Feb. 9) / Greta Rybus has a list of "stunning" hot springs of our globe. On the Himachali hot springs (India):
'Each day at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., a priest named Mahant Shiv Giri performs puja, a set of religious rites, in a small temple at the hot springs near the Gaj River in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
First, he bathes himself in the hot springs, washing his body and face in thermal water. “The significance of bathing is to purify yourself,” he said. “It is a way to mark your attendance in the house of God.”
Many of the other hot springs in Himachal Pradesh are in and around temple structures, too. In the larger town of Manikaran, Sikh and Hindu temples sit snugly against each other on the banks of the Parvati River, sharing the same potent thermal source.
Hot spring Journeys also has a (short) list (Feb. 19) of Nepali hot springs:
'Nestled amidst the majestic Himalayas, Nepal offers not just breathtaking landscapes and ancient wonders, but also a hidden gem - its natural hot springs. Known locally as "tatopani," these geothermal oases provide a unique blend of relaxation, rejuvenation, and cultural immersion.
People from all over the world visit Nepal in order to admire the natural beauty and experience the cultural heritage and diversity of the society and the socio-cultural environment. During their visits, people often use the hot springs for spa and wellness purposes, mostly along the famous trekking routes such as:
  • Annapurna circuit (the Ghorepani Tatopani and Bhurung Tatopani - Dana Tatopani)
  • Singha hot spring along Myagdi Khola, close to Beni Bazaar
  • Tatopani along the Kaligandaki River Valley towards upper Mustang
  • Syabrubesi hot spring along the Bhotekoshi River - Langtang Valley
  • Kodari hot spring along the Bhotekoshi Nadi (Nepal - China boarder)'.

Hot spring journeys (Feb. 24) again, a list of visits to 5 hot springs in the Kingdom of Druk.

An article from TibetTravel.org (Nov. 6, 2024) concerning the traditional bathing festival as celebrated by Tibeteans.
'The Tibetan Bathing Festival, with a rich history spanning over 800 years, is an annual celebration held in early autumn and lasting for one week. During this time, locals gather by the riverside to bathe and wash clothes, believing the ritual brings good fortune and health'.
Their selling point:
'Additionally, you can take a half-day trip to enjoy Dezhong Hot Spring near Lhasa. Located 119 kilometers from downtown Lhasa at an altitude of 4,300 meters, Dezhong Hot Spring is one of Tibet’s most famous hot springs. With a history dating back 1,400 years, it’s known for its healing mineral waters and stunning alpine scenery, offering the perfect blend of relaxation and natural beauty.
For a more relaxing experience, you can try a traditional Tibetan medicinal bath. This ancient practice uses herbal teas, special minerals, and calming rituals to help relax your body and mind. It is believed to detoxify, restore energy, and bring balance, drawing from centuries of Tibetan healing traditions and Buddhism'.
Rove me has a list (May 23, 2023) of Tibetean hot springs to visit in the upcoming years.
'If you want to relax after a long trip or just a reprieve from the daily routine, the best way to do so is to visit one of the hot springs in Tibet. With over 1,000 hot springs, Tibet can offer you fantastic options for relaxation'.
Oddly, the article then only mentions 2 (or 3)!

ExPlore with Phub TsheRing (Sep. 27, 2024) has a short vdo on the Tibetan hot spring of Tirdum:
'Sacred Nude HotSpring of Guru Rinpoche in Tibet:
Here I would like to share some of my experiences soaking in the very sacred Tidrum/Tidro Tshachu in full naked.
When I first visited the sacred Tidrum Tshachu with my clients,I was told that we shall not soak in with our clothes on and have to pay ¥200 as a fine if we don’t soak fully naked..
I really felt awkward as I never took bath all naked especially in front of many people but my senior clients told me that there’s nothing to fell awkward as we are carrying only one thing and everyone knows about it and on top of that we used same practices in Bhutan in the olden times..
I took all my clothes but smartly used my right hand to cover my front part and then immersed till neck in the corner..
We can see all types of pistols there as it’s an etiquette for Tibetans not to soak in a hotspring with your clothes on.
We should be alert especially when we get out of the hotspring as there’s big chances of kissing someone’s pistol..
But now we Bhutanese started wearing underwear..
Tidrum hotspring is said be created by Guru Rinpoche using his Dorji.
The average temperature of the spring is 40 (degree). It is known to contain sulfur, limestone, bitumen, coal, and other minerals. According to Tibetan medicine, these can alleviate gastric disorder, tumors, paralysis, rheumatism, dermatitis, poor blood circulation, and general debility over a one week stay'.
Mutikonka returns to Kangding (Apr. 10) Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan:
'I debussed at what I thought was the edge of town and hiked a further 2km up more of the same, along a busy road that obviously led to a high school, judging by the number of kids in school uniform traipsing past saying 'hello' to me. I tried and failed to find the plain old hot springs building by the river where I had taken a dip about 15 years previously, but it now looked like it had been replaced by a grand Hot Springs Hotel resort complex'.
Finally, Siberia. The Pinnacle Gazette (Feb. 1) mentions how Tyumen hot spring is closing for a revamp:
'Tyumen's well-known hot spring, Volna, is set for temporary closure starting April 14 until June 16, 2025, as part of significant renovation plans announced by the owners via their official social media channels.
The renovation aims primarily at updating the hot spring facilities, including the modernization of the pool and repairs to the bath complex. "Plans are extensive, but the main goal is to completely update the pool and renovate the bath complex," the owners stated.
...
Interestingly, many locals report visiting the hot springs less frequently, partly due to the relatively high costs associated with them. Journalist Anatoly Kuznetsov recounted his recent trip to one of the thermal resorts during the holiday weekend, expressing disappointment with the experience, indicating the complex dynamics of local attendance versus tourist interest'.

A start off with a couple of interesting photo's from the area, as well as a tidbit or two.

Nepal. Above and reported on.
Tophotsprings reports (Dec. 1) on the more well-known Tatopani-Beni hot springs:
'Both the Tatopani Hot Spring and the Paudwar Hot Spring can be found in Tatopani, making this area a popular destination for those in search of geothermal waters for relaxation or medicinal purposes. Locals use the gentle waters of this natural mineral spring to relax and feel better, and it also draws a steady stream of curious tourists'.
A short report from The Rising Nepal (Feb. 3) on the same:
'The rural municipality has added infrastructure and managed the spring, increasing the number of visitors day by day, said Tilija. Three ponds have been constructed so that patients can submerge their bodies. Water tap has been installed for drinking water and toilets are constructed in the site. The bathing pool is covered with zinc sheets'.

Discovered the #Borong #HotSprings today. After one of the bumpiest rides on #twowheels ever, around 20 clicks later, we ended up at a huge hole in the road and had to walk from there. 40 minutes through a Nepalese #Shire (not joking) we hit the river and right next to it, this simple, yet #natural #pool of lovely #sulfury water. Our soakmates: #Sikkimese , #Nepalese , and #Bhutane , in which a few of the younger men spoke decent enough English for small talk. The hike back up through the Shire was an hour and a half long and decently intense ventute, but with the help of a local man, we located our transpo and were off on a whole different adventure getting back to #Ravangla. Quite the rewarding and overall incredible day! Stoke. | #Sikkim #India #Globetrotter #Winning #Travels #AreWeStillInIndia
Curlytales (Jul. 28, 2022) has a concise overview of five soaks in Sikkim.
Meanwhile, BBS reports (Oct. 10) on the efforts underway to restore Gasa hot spring.
'The Gasa hot spring or Gasa Tshachhu will take some time to reopen to the public. The management is still carrying out restoration works at the site. The hot spring which is believed to cure skin problems, joint pains, and digestive disorders, among others, was completely washed away by the Mochhu flood in August last year [2021]'.

More from China. iChongqing reports (Jan. 9) supposedly never ending push to establish the city as the world's hot spring capital, whatever that may mean / or be of significance.
'On January 6, the Second China Hot Spring Industry Expo opened in Beibei District, Chongqing, where abundant hot spring resources lie.
...
The exhibition scale of this industry expo is 10,000 square meters, with 6 themed exhibition areas and 200 booths. It brings together cutting-edge products and the latest technologies of the whole industry chain, such as international hot spring promotion agencies, hot spring resorts, and hot spring facilities and equipment companies.
One of the flagship products at this exhibition is the "Bath Aid Express," initiated by the Chongqing Charity Federation. The Bath Aid Express aims to ensure the cleanliness of the elderly by providing bath assistance services for the disabled, semi-disabled, and extremely poor elderly'.
This is a bath in a bus.
'At present, there are more than 40 hot spring tourist attractions, hotels, and resorts built in the city. Chongqing has become a famous hot spring tourism city centered on hot springs. The influence of the "World Hot Spring Capital" at home and abroad is continuously expanding'.
European Spa Association (ESPA) has an interview (Jan. 10) with two co-founders of the Shenzhen-Qianhai Sino-European Spa Academy. Why?
'With ancient Chinese legends and folk ballads extolling the enchanted healing powers of the water, thermal medicine has a long tradition in China dating back more than 2,000 years. On 15 November 2022 in Tengchong, Yunnan province in China, the first spa hotel dedicated to thermal medicine opened its doors'.
Basically the Academy has been trying to establish which soaks can be used for which ailment, so to say; it seems soaking for solace is not on their cards.

Tree cave hot spring
树洞温泉
有点意思
#travel #trip #photography #photographer #China #yunnan #mangshi #hotsprings #treecave #treecavehotspring #草莓行摄 #树洞温泉 #温泉
Starting off in China.
The Tree Cave Hot Spring is located in Mangbang Village, Zhefang Town, Mangshi. Formely known as Luxi, Mangshi is in western Yunnan, closer to the border with Burma.
I actually stumbled on a great overview of Yunnan's soaks from Luju Bar (17 Sep. 2020) entitled:
'17 wild hot springs around Kunming suitable for bathing'.
The around should not be taken too literally, Mangshi for instance is a 7 hours drive ...

Another find (pictured above) has been this article from Ninefeetapart (Feb. 4, 2020):
'It is the world's largest hot spring waterfall, and it is also the only hot spring in the world that can cure diseases (the highest content of radon in domestic hot spring water). It is the only cliff hot spring in the world. That's right, it's Jiu Jiu Li Hot Spring in Luoji Mountain. Today I will take you to find out.
Luoji Mountain Ninety-Ninety-Kilometer Hot Spring is located about 45 kilometers south of Xichang City, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. The highest peak is 4359 meters above sea level. The hot water of 40 degrees per year cascades down from the cliff of Mid-mountain. The highest waterfall falls 50 meters. The hot spring waterfall is composed of hundreds of hot spring waterfalls of various sizes, forming a hot spring waterfall group with a width of more than 200 meters, which is very spectacular'.
The next is also accredited to Sichuan, probably the more mountainous area towards Tibet.

Part 1
After volunteering two weeks our work exchange was over.
🏔️It was now time to explore, Mountains & Hiking are what define Kyrgyzstan it the best way.
The scenery is the highlight of the country so of course we had to go for a hiking trip😊
We got told about some free hotsprings without doing much more research, besides the route we packed our things, leaving our baby chicks with our host family🐤

⛺ We put up the tent just 5km up the trail as we had started late, before the sun set we cooked some noodles, having an early night to have enough energy next day

😴It was a short night because Krystal wanted to start at 5 in the morning so we started at 6😅
The hike was not the easiest but we made it and saw the hot springs which was not what we expected just a pot of warm water but we went inside anyway because after 20km walking we deserved this 😌

🇩🇪:
Teil 1

A quick tour of the region, with photo's and info.
We're starting off in Tajikistan (above and following), at the starting point of the Wakhan corridor: the photogenic Garm Chasma hot spring.
Following is a description from the blog lillafamiljenreiser (Sep. 29); from Swedish it translates as:
'At 12 o'clock we drove out again from Khorog towards the hot spring we were told yesterday - Garmchashma Hot Spring. It is a source of thousands of years, with lots of minerals and lime in the water. We arrived at 2 pm and went in and bathed. From 2 pm to 3 pm, women were allowed to swim outdoors, in the natural spring and men were allowed to swim indoors. Lucky me! I brought the kids with me, because the air indoors where the men were allowed to swim was like a sauna. The water was very warm, well above 42 degrees, so the kids didn't want to swim but sat mostly and watched'.

Below, from the border region of Uzbekistan with Kazachstan, referred to as Pskem (the river?), Tashkent region:

Lonely Planet's forum has an entry on Nepal's Tatopani. Initial post (5 months ago):
'Pls let me know whether it is up and running again after the earthquake? Thx'.
The answers are diverse:
'The Hot spring of Tatopani, Myagdi, NEPAL has been working perfectly at the present. ...The ones on Tamang Heritage Trail don't work. Pools were empty in fall 2019 and I didn't see any efforts in finding the springs again....The Tatopani along the Manaslu Tour, between Khorlabesi and Jagat, had been heavily damaged by the 2015 eartquakes, but was back in to order in November 2017. Ducts were delivering really hot water, but pools were not filled'.
Holidify (Sep. 23) has a full article on the hot springs of Bhutan. The intro:
'Hot springs, which are known as Tshachus, are known for their medicinal properties and are found in different parts of Bhutan. It has been used for centuries by the locals to cure different kinds of body ailments, especially arthritis. The popular tradition amongst Bhutanese is to visit hot springs during the winters. Thanks to the plethora of medicinal flora and multifaceted traditional healing practices dating back to the 7th century, Bhutan has an ancient name ‘Menjung’ which means the land of medicinal herbs.
...
According to Bhutanese spiritual beliefs, the hot spring (tshachu), mineral spring (drubchu) and medicinal water (smenchu) have originated from the blessings of Lord Buddha and Bodhisattvas. These holy water sources are located in the sacred sites, and it's very important to the local population of Bhutan'.
It lists Gasa, D(h)ur, Chuboog, Gelephu and Duenmang hot springs.
Gasa Tshachu or Hot spring in Gasa is the most famous hot mineral spring in Bhutan. It is a place where people from all over the country come to have bath and soak in different ponds due to its curative powers. People believe that soaking in the waters is beneficial to their health and they visit these hot springs to cure various ailments ranging from ulcers to joint pains and sinus troubles. Besides, there are many medicinal waters that are believed to cure various other diseases. Foreigners call it as Bhutanese Beach as it is the only place where all walks of life especially elderly people gather at the place and soak in the same pond. So, visit Gasa and enjoy the hot natural spring bath.
Rust
The instagram account Baikalnature has a not so interesting photo, but with the following text:
'baikalnature.official
Did You Know? — There is a lot of hot springs in the open air around Baikal, where you can swim even in the coldest winter: “Zhemchug” in the Tunkinskaya Valley, Zmeevaya Bay in the Chivyrkuy Bay, springs at Cape Kotelnikovsky, Dzelinda, Khakusy and Goudzhekit in Northern Baikal. Hot springs mean not only useful mineral water, which treats an impressive list of diseases, but also sacred sites'.
Examples. Zhemchug:

sophiakatarina
Close to the small town of Arshan, known for its waterfalls and rusting sanatoriums, is the area generally known as Zhemchug. But when you get off a bus at the main road by Zhemchug, you have to head up north for a few kilometers to find a neighbourhood called Vishka. Vishka is a truly authentic Russian holiday village for regular families. The reason this place has come to be are the mineral hot springs, which you can visit for 200-250 rubles per half hour. Thirty minutes is plenty, because at least at ’Akvapark’ (pictured) the water is close to 60 degrees Celsius and after a while your body just wants out. The water smells a bit of methane and the Russians say it’s good for the bones. The small village boasts many cafés where the food is good and cheap, and they accept cards almost everywhere. Choose a restaurant by the Irkut river bank for a lovely view from the terrace. I’m staying at a place called Novyy Vek which is not online. I pay 350 rubles per night (outdoor toilet), and an hour of banya here set me back eighty. A popular thing to do here is get a massage, as well. This is truly a place to relax at, as you can see the beautiful Sayan mountains from here very clearly... and there isn’t much else to do anyway. #siperianhommia #zhemchug

ThinkGeoEnergy (Oct. 15) on Mongolia:
'Today, IGA’s Team and Photo Contest Committee announced the winner of the Photo Contest and thereby a ticket to the World Geothermal Congress 2020. About 70 contributions were sent into the competition including pitches on the photos.
IGA [International Geothermal Association] congratulates Kasia Kurek on winning the award and WGC2020 ticket. Here her pitch for the photos of Tsenkher hot spa in Mongolia here below on the photo collage title “Geothermal unknown magic … ”
“On the 1860 meters above sea, based in the old volcanoes structure a hot geothermal spring flows all year long with unsalted, highly mineralised waters of 86°C. Throughout a system of primitive pipelines the hot geothermal water powers the local households, warms the animals shelters in the harsh Mongolian winter and is used for simple greenhousing.
Thanks to this hot spring the tourism sector emerged and a geothermal spa and a tourist yurts camp is constructed. The geothermal resource is an economic leverage to this small, rural community in the middle of Mongolia.
Tsenkher has no paved road access thus, the geothermal spring is the main the source of energy and thereby the source of community life. Moreover, the geothermal spring is given a magical significance by the locals and village shamans perform their prayers at the source estuary…”.

And finally, the China Daily reports (Mar. 4) on Guizhou hot springs

'Hot spring attractions in Guizhou, a relatively undeveloped province in southwestern China, witnessed a boom in tourist arrivals during last month's Spring Festival holiday.
...
Hot spring bathing has become a popular leisure activity for Chinese travelers in recent years, online travel agency Tuniu said in a news release, adding that there had been a significant increase in bookings for hot spring packages since November.
...
Guizhou's provincial government released a guideline for the development of hot springs tourism last year.
It said the province, home to about 260 registered geothermal locations, will be built into a "hot springs power" by 2020, with the revenue generated expected to account for 20 percent of the province's gross tourism revenue by 2025.
By the end of December, 10 hot spring resorts had been built in Guizhou, with investment totaling about 2.3 billion yuan ($344 million), the guideline said'.
More China, from Gu'ergou (Sichuan), finishing with what is referred to as Tibet. That narrows it down a bit!

Crisp

Жители деревни Сябру Бенси после празднования Холи принимают ванну на горячем источнике 🔥 Всех с праздником Нового Года! 🙏 Residents of the village Syabru Bensi after the celebration of the Holy take a bath on hot springs 🔥 Happy New Year! 🙏
Lots of pictures, very few words.
Let's start with my love, Nepal.
Above, north of Kathmandu, just short of the Tibetean border, the hot spring of Syabru Bensi. Following, north of western town of Pokhara, on y'r way to Manang, lies what I believe to be Chame hot spring.
Both examples of rustic rural soaks. Note, society somehow prefers females to bathe elsewhere. Urgh.

Whilst trekking around the Annapurna mountain range in Nepal last year we came across these beautiful hot springs. They were situated right next to a violent rapid-ridden river flowing with cold glacial water from the 8,000m giants further up the valley.September 2017 in Nepal was unusually warm and mild - here, two local boys are enjoying the crisp and warm water. @mykindofnepal#lumix #g7 #lumixg7 #september#nepal #annapurna #annapurnacircuit#trek #trekking #boys #boy #water#blue #hotspring #tectonics #mountain#mountains #village #remote#gadventures #travel#streetphotography #waterbodies#photojournalism #back #body #stone#turquoise

Heading eastwards from Nepal along the Himalaya, we next hit the former kingdom of Sikkim. Above a nice vdo of Gangyap hot springs.
Then further east, it's Bhutan next on line. The caption says it all.

Swinging backwards we end up in India's Himachal Pradesh. Above it says Himachal Pradesh, but I have my doubts. Which hot spring are we talking about? Dhauladhar?
Below, for sure HP.
Finally, the obligatory photo of Kheerganga (Likewise HP).

Swipe 👈.....I'm sure most adventure enthusiasts have flown into the open sky of Bir Billing. But I wonder how many have explored the not too famous destinations around this beautiful town. ....About an hr drive further on the road to Sherabling monastery is this beautiful hot water spring... Tatapani (Can be found on Google's map). ....A short 2 Kms trek takes u up there. The beauty of the place lies in its remoteness. ....As the boiling hot water descends to the river, there are small pools of water at various levels of temperature. Suit yourself and enjoy the hot springs. ___________________#exploretocreate #wilderness#hotsprings #hotspringsofindia#tatapani #birbilling #wanderlust#mypixeldiary #discover #throwback#travelbloggers #instapics#himachaldiaries #_hpics#incredibleindia #lonelyplanet #nature#river #mountains #rawadventures#adventurer #adventureismydrug#photooftheday📷 #outdoors#tripstagram #passionpassport #footloose #itchyfeet #beyondtravel#discovertheearth__________________@lonelyplanetmagazineindia @colours.of.himachal @instahimachal @himachalpictures @himachaltravlography @himachaltourismofficial @outlooktraveller @adventureismydrug@hippie_in_hills

Deeper into China: Sichuan. Ichongqing info (Oct. 11, 2018) has a list of local hot springs:
'Currently, there are over 3,000 hot springs discovered in China, and Chongqing is the city with abundant geothermal resource.
Chongqing is known as the “hot spring capital”, and the hot spring resorts here have a good reputation throughout the country. The history of developing hot springs in Chongqing can date back to the 5th century.
North Hot Springs and East Hot Springs in Chongqing have been in operation for a very long time. While there are some newer ones on the scene. The older resorts have a long history and rich culture while the newly developed hot springs have better facilities'.
A day before the same source announced this:
'It is expected the hot spring industry in Chongqing will achieve its ambitious goals by 2020, i.e. to build 200 hot spring resorts, 15 classic hot-spring-tour routes, a huge water park, a research center on hot spring, an education and training center for hot spring industry, and a health center'.
Meanwhile ..., at the South Yao Autonomous County of Qingyuan:

China Daily (Jan. 15) has an article on it's wintery hot spring river:
'A river never freezes in Hinggan League of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, although the air temperature reaches as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.
The river, located 74 kilometers away from the downtown area of Hinggan League's Arxan city and stretching for 20 kilometers, is called the Unfrozen River by the locals'.

After three months, I figured we’d resurrect #throwbackThursdaywith this shot of @viva_el.lardo skinny dipping in a natural, back country, Kyrgyz hot spring after a long hike in
Finally heading westwards again. First Kyrgyzstan and following and bowing us out Tajikistan:
